I’ve had the idea for this type of picture for a long, long time. The idea was to generate some depth: heavy bokeh + blurred Snapchat interface = an almost 3D aesthetic. I’ve tried to do it justice by taking a selfie, but I never really liked the way it came out. Instead of pursuing it, I just tucked it somewhere in the back of my brain.
When I was waiting for my flight to St Louis for a conference (post coming soon), I was editing a picture with my shoot with Jill when I spotted my old Snapchat template. I suddenly remembered which picture I wanted to use to make this composite a reality. And here it is:
