If you’re not into camera gear-nerdiness, you can stop reading now, and I wouldn’t blame you. I made one of the biggest purchases an amateur photographer can make… and here’s why.
In the photography world, some say the three best prime lenses you can own is the 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm. They each have their own aesthetic depending on what kind of shot you want. My current kit has a 17-50mm lens, so I’m covered with the first two focal lengths. There’s just the 85.
Rewind to spring break, and I’m browsing Ebay for potential deals. Long story short, I decide to pull the trigger and purchase a ‘new’ Sigma 85mm f1.4 ART lens. Sigma’s ART line has professional grade designs that is just fantastic. They’re lenses are SUPER sharp and are designed for professional use. Basically for more important work than what I do. And my goodness it’s a beautiful lens.
My dream goal is to own the Trinity of fast prime lenses. I’m so glad to be able to scratch off one of them off of my Amazon wishlist. I now have one of them. Two more to go.
I got the Art 50, but I rarely use it because it’s so big and heavy.

The Art 85 is such a hefty beast, I bring it out to take portraits when I have the energy for it
