I’ve only witnessed about 2 live proposals in my life. But when one of your friends asks you to be part of their proposal, it’s quite magical. The plan was to disguise the proposal as a casual couples photoshoot, since the two of them don’t have great photos of themselves together. I helped plan a location once I came back to New York. He had to pick a day and deal with the tachycardia. At the end of it, I think I got the better end of the deal.

Winter photoshoots are always a challenge, because skin around the face and ears tends to flush. Luckily, the weather that day was quite forgiving but still windy by the water. The sun peaked out just once the entire shoot, so no golden hour light for us. I also tried to make the whole process as painless as possible so that no one froze that day. Most of the photos taken that day were “couple” photos, but I couldn’t resist taking the opportunity for some traditional portraits either.

This was a once in a lifetime moment. And I wanted to do it justice. I tried my best to capture the magic, and I think it all worked out in the end.

Congratulations Ryan and Lisa. And thank you for letting me be a part of it.
