This Lunar New Year is a bit of importance for me. It’s now the year of the Dog, which is my zodiac animal. Traditionally, that means that it’ll bring me good luck and good fortune over the next few months. And after what I had to go through the past year, I am wholeheartedly grateful for it.
As I’m away from home, I celebrated it in two stages. First it was at a school event, where student clubs held different activities to celebrate oriental culture. There was calligraphy done by one of our professors, a station to learn and fold origami, as well as a ‘chopstick race’ where you had to carry individual beans from one side of the room to the other (with chopsticks of course).
Later that week, I’d arrange a large family-style dinner with twelve of my friends in Chinatown. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to get a photo of the meal, because most of it was gone before I got a chance to take pictures of it. But I did get a night-time shot in the midst of all of the snow.
